Food lovers in Sydney, get ready: Neutral Bay is set to host its first-ever Taco Eating Championship as part of SoCal Sydney‘s month-long Taco and Tequila Fiesta. This tasty showdown will occur on Thursday, 22 May 2025, at the SoCal restaurant in Neutral Bay.
A Month of Mexican Fiesta Fun
SoCal Sydney is returning its popular Taco & Tequila Fiesta for the seventh year, promising a vibrant celebration throughout May 2025. The festivities kicked off on Saturday, 3 May, with a launch party featuring a bottomless fiesta menu, live music, and plenty of margaritas.
According to SoCal, this annual event marks Cinco de Mayo and offers a range of activities for the community to enjoy under the “palms” of their Neutral Bay venue.
Taco Eating Competition Takes Centre Stage
A highlight of the month-long fiesta is the taco-eating competition on Thursday, 22 May. For an entry fee of $30, competitors will receive a Tommy’s margarita upon arrival and then battle it out over three heats to see who can quickly devour ten of SoCal’s signature tacos.
The quickest eater will be crowned SoCal’s first-ever Taco Champion, earning bragging rights and a grand prize. Organisers have also mentioned that numerous prizes will be awarded throughout the competition, and spectators are welcome to come along and cheer on the participants for free.
More Than Just Tacos
Beyond the taco-eating contest, SoCal’s Taco & Tequila Fiesta offers a variety of other attractions. Another eating challenge, a chilli eating contest, is scheduled for Thursday, 15 May, for those who enjoy spicy food.
The restaurant will also feature weekly specials throughout May, including Wing Wednesdays and Tommy Thursdays. Taco lovers can also look forward to $4 tacos and $15 margaritas on Tuesdays, while Thursdays offer an enchilada and margarita special for $40. Fridays will feature a bottomless fajita offer for $35.
Chance to Win a Year’s Supply of Tacos
Adding to the excitement, SoCal is running a competition where customers can win a year’s worth of tacos. Every purchase of food or drink made through the Applejack App between Saturday, 3 May, and Saturday, 31 May, will automatically enter participants into the draw. This offers an extra incentive for the community to join in the month-long celebrations at the Neutral Bay restaurant.
